Interfacing ECDLs W Toptica Controllers
Given appropriate jumper connections, the Toptica controllers have the same pinout as the ThorLabs controllers, and they are both one-to-one with the Yuliya circuit boards. In the attached PDF, the appropriate jumper connections for the two possible configurations are shown (anode ground and cathode ground). Note that Pin 3 (LD ground) always serves as ground for the controller, and choosing anode ground or cathode ground on the controller determines whether a positive current or negative current is applied relative to that ground. This is discussed in the Toptica and ThorLabs manuals. There is a set of jumper pins that are not present in all circuit boards that are used for control of the bias voltage sensor. In order to avoid making specific cables for anode ground and cathode ground diodes, these jumpers should be used with Toptica controllers. ThorLabs controllers automatically measure bias voltage internally without the use of dedicated pins, so such jumpers are not necessary.
In short, switching grounding configurations when using Toptica controllers should require a switch of 3 jumpers, and a switch on the controller module. The cable can be a simple 1-to-1 serial cable.
